Finnish QKLS Rally 2020 is another event on the WSF Banked Slalom Tour!

After the successful Banked Slalom Tour organized by the Finnish Snowboard Association, it is now the third time for the Banked Slalom Finnish Championships – this time called QKLS Rally. As in recent years, the Finnish Championships of banked turns will be go down in the wonderful surroundings of Tahko from 3rd to the 4th of April 2020.

SHRED KIDS are here for the 2019/20 season!

Have you heard of SHRED KIDS yet? It Germany’s biggest snowboard project for kids and juniors. The goal of the project is simple: to take the kids riding and share the stoke for snowboarding with them. 9 places around Germany will host weekly coaching sessions with professional coaches for kids between 5 and 13 years of age.

The locations are: Oberwiesenthal, Lenggries, Sudelfeld, Garmisch, Feldberg, Großer Arber, Geisskopf, Nesselwang, Munich. More info about the locations and dates can be found here.

One test day is free of charge for every child. You can register here.
The kids only have to have the first experience with snowboarding and be able to ride a T-bar lift alone.

Besides coaching sessions, there will also be 2 festivals and 4 camps taking place. For more info check out the website and facebook page.

WSF is looking for a Project Officer

As the season approaches, we are looking for a new member to join our growing team. This time around we’re looking for a Project Officer. Below are the key information:

Prerequisites for the position:

We are looking for a Project Officer for our grassroots and development projects. As the WSF Project Officer you will lead, develop and implement the projects from the beginning in December 2019/January 2020. Key Projects are the WSF Banked Slalom Tour, WSF Junior Tour (World Rookie Rank). We are offering a fixed term contract for 6 months, including a probation of 1 months. A re-appointment is possible.

The Project Officer has to be located in Innsbruck, provided he/she is available for regular meetings (at least once a month in Innsbruck – Austria).

The main objective of the work of the Project Officer is to lead and implement the WSF Projects: the World Rookie Rank and the Banked Slalom Tour.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage the WSF Projects
  • Motivate WSF Members to take part in the WSF Projects
  • Constant communication with Organisers to gather information about their projects
  • Lead the projects, under the supervision of WSF General Secretary, so that the yearly goals and objectives are met
  • Deliver regularly content for communication to WSF Communication Officer
  • Create a yearly report to be presented at the WSF General Assembly

Selection criteria – essential qualities and skills:

  • Text writer in English for all WSF communication, German is a plus
  • WordPress CMS knowledge
  • Be a Snowboard enthusiast
  • Proactive and Independent Worker
  • Project Management experience is a plus
  • Previous Experience in Non-Profit Organisation is a plus

Shred Down Banked Slalom is back in Westendorf for 2020!

We are hyped to present you another banked slalom contest which is part of our WSF Banked Slalom Tour 2019/20. The legendary Shred Down Banked Slalom will go down in Westendorf on the 15th of March 2020. The event has a long tradition of 21 years so you can expect nothing else than epicness and good times.

Grown-ups, youngsters and kids of all ages and skills will gather again on a fun banked slalom course to get that contest feeling while having fun on the mountain. The smallest shredders are expected again to make the biggest show and showcase their talent at the 21st edition of Shred Down Banked Slalom.

Jan Lohynsky appointed WSF Communication Officer

The World Snowboard Federation announces an addition to the team. After a hiring process over the summer months, Jan Lohynsky was appointed WSF Communication Officer to join Anna Negri, WSF General Secretary in helping to fulfill the federation’s goals.

Jan Lohynsky comes from Prague, Czech Republic, but is based in Innsbruck, Austria, where the WSF also officialy resides. Jan has a strong background in snowboarding as he competed in the World Rookie Tour and later on in both national and international contests. He studies and works in the field of communication for years now and is thus newly an appropriate part of the WSF.

World Rookie Rank – 2019/20 season

We are happy to present the World Rookie Rank for the 2019/20 season! In the following article we answer to the questions which may arise. In the meantime, the youngsters may strap in!

What is the WSF World Rookie Rank?

  • The World Rookie Rank is a classification for riders 18 and under through the WSF and the WSPL
  • Through a partnership with WSF and the World Rookie Tour, results from the WRR will qualify athletes for the World Rookie Finals
  • Selected winners of various WRT events will also compete in the finals of the World Rookie Tour
  • Winners of the World Rookie Finals will be awarded with the title of World Rookie Champion

Athletes are then offered a unique opportunity to enter the world of professional snowboarding through various filming and events invitations reserved exclusively for World Rookie Champions. This gives the young riders an amazing platform to develop their future snowboarding careers.

The average of the best 3 results generate the overall rider’s points in the World Rookie Rank and World Grom Rank used as one of the qualification criteria for the 2020 World Rookie Finals.

Only the best rookies in the world will be granted access to the World Rookie Tour big final: the “World Rookie Finals” in Kitzsteinhorn at Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria.

What are the goals of World Rookie Rank & World Rookie Tour?

  • Serve each nation with a true World Rookie Rank that will grow participation in the events
  • Develop momentum and brand loyalty with WSF to then build and support WSF Mission and Values
  • Partnering with the already established WRT and Yeti brand builds on strengths and already existing network
  • Through qualifying events WSF can help to populate the WRT finals and create a new revenue stream in partnership with WRT
  • Promote inclusion for non-FIS aged event schedule via the WSPL through the WSF for a nominal fee
  • Qualification pathway to World Rookie Finals

What are the benefits of the WSF World Rookie Rank?

  • Incorporate existing WRT to raise event value
  • Qualify to higher level events through regional WSF/WRR competitions
  • Build a global network of events and riders
  • More than 1000 riders out of 30 Nations on the rank in the 2018/19 season
  • Focus on age appropriate in line with WSF Mission and Vison
  • Provide access to WSPL for non-FIS events
  • Offer national young riders more opportunities to qualify for the World Rookie Finals

What are the requirements for the WSF World Rookie Rank?

  • Nations pay WSF for WRR events on the WSPL
    Both Regional or National Level is possible – see WSPL Requirements for Regional and National Level Events
    $50 per event and discipline
    Examples:
    Slopestyle – Rookie + Grom – Male + Female Results – $50
    Slopestyle + Halfpipe – Rookie + Grom – Male + Female Results – $100
  • Results have to be submitted not later than 48 hours after the event in this provided Results Template
    (the year of birth of athletes is necessary)
  • Only WSF Members (nations or events) can apply for World Rookie Rank

What are the qualifying criteria for the World Rookie Snowboard Finals?

Ages:

  • Rookies (boys and girls) born from the 1st of January 2002 to the 31st of December 2004
  • Groms (boys and girls) born from the the 1st of January 2005 and younger

WSF Members:
Riders must be from WSF member nations to be considered.

Qualification – World Rookie Final:

  • Top 20 riders of the World Rookie Rank (top 20 male, top 20 female) + the top 10 riders from the Grom rank by the of March 25th 2020 will qualify.
  • The top 3 riders, both male and female / Rookie and Grom, from the previous international stops are already qualified to the World Rookie Finals. (see WRT Calendar)
  • Additional WSF Member Criteria. – 2 Rookies Men, 2 Rookie Girl, 1 GromMan, 1 Grom Girl.

To sum it up, this platform is and will be without a doubt one of the key platforms for the young up-and-coming riders and generally the well-being of the snowboarding world which relies on those youngsters!

WSF Banked Slalom Tour is back for the 2019/20 season!

Time to build those banked turns again! The WSF Banked Slalom Tour is back this season with some fresh information for all events organizers and national associations.

What is the Banked Slalom Tour?
The WSF Banked Slalom Tour (BST) was launched in October 2014. The BST is an international tour to promote and celebrate the history of snowboarding. WSF Banked Slalom Tour concept offers a platform and a network within currently existing events and support to create new ones.

How to become part of the WSF Banked Slalom Tour?
WSF invites all national associations and event organizers that already have a banked slalom contest on their schedule to be part of the tour and fill out the attached application form to participate.
WSF also invites all of you to organize a Banked Slalom contest and get support from us on how to do it. We will give technical support to those who have never organized a Banked Slalom event, but WSF will also support the PR and communication activities of already scheduled events.

What are our goals with the WSF Banked Slalom Tour?

  • To offer National Snowboard Associations a new competitive format for their national tour and self promotion

Which tools do we use to achieve the goals?

What is this year’s tour structure?

The vision is to create events which allow riders of all levels to participate. In order to bring more people into the sport, we decided to start with a very easy concept, combining athletic performance with fun.

There are many existing banked slalom events world wide. The WSF tour concept is to offer a platform and network within currently existing events, bringing more attention to banked slalom, as well as the individual events.

The podium winners (female and male) from all tour stops will participate in a ruffle. The ruffle will be conducted through online video at the end of the season (beginning of next season). Through the ruffle, grand prize will be an invitation to the Legendary Mount Baker Banked Slalom. Additional prizes will be given to ruffle participants, such as t-shirts and accessories.

What are the benefits for the event organizers?

  • Event profile on WSF home page
  • Right to use BST logo
  • Included in WSF BST Calendar and Flyer
  • PR communication for individual events, prior to and after the event
  • PR communication about the tour, including all events
  • Assistance in developing all aspects of each event and banked slalom in general after request
  • Networking platform for organizers to communicate regarding banked slalom events online meeting (one-two per year)
  • Prizes through the ruffle system
  • Possibility to work with Quattro media for a special deal – 2-3 internet videos 2-5 min. for internet distribution + TV integration in a 26 min. TV show (world wide distributed) for 1500,- (Media evaluation included)

Report: Treble Cone Banked Slalom 2019

One of the first Banked Slalom contests of this season went down on the last day of August in New Zealand’s Treble Cone resort. This year’s Treble Cone Banked Slalom counted an impressive number of 83 competitors. The organization of the event was complimented by amazing bluebird weather to create a festive atmosphere and fun event that was described by competitors and staff as the best Banked Slalom in recent memory!

Treble Cone’s Banked Slalom is recognised by the press as New Zealand’s most iconic snowboard race and has been a traditional event at Treble Cone for over 16 years.

This year the event was sponsored by: Moa Beer, Jones Snowboards, Now Bindings and POW.
